Newman followed with her second double of the year as Pena scored. Mandi Roemmich (West Des Moines, Iowa) was the next batter up and she singled up the middle to score Wright and extend her hitting streak to five games as Drake led 2-0. Newman, who one-hit the Redbirds Saturday in the series opening win, allowed just one baserunner past first as a Redbird made it to second base in the fourth. Newman is now just 20 career strikeouts away from Jenna DeLong’s (2008-11) school record of 760. Drake hosts UNI Tuesday night at Buel Field.
